Wiltshire Digital Drive (WDD) is a purpose-driven Community Interest Company (CIC), committed to bridging the digital divide, encouraging inclusion and achieving real social impact. Schools, charities, not-for-profit organisations, councils and families have all directly benefitted from WDD’s purpose-led activities — we have encouraged businesses and individuals to think differently about technology and e-waste.
With the digital divide being a huge societal issue that is largely overlooked, the dedication of WDD’s team of volunteers, combined with over 600 hours of pro-bono support to date from founding member Naturally Social and partners, has led to almost 3,000 devices being refurbished and redistributed since 2020 while simultaneously reducing landfill waste and resultant CO2 emissions locally.

WDD is fully focused on extending the life cycle of technology for as long as possible, with any tech unable to be refurbished or redistributed being responsibly recycled and contributing to the circular economy.

Wiltshire Digital Drive’s ardent commitment to recycling received technologies has shone a bright spotlight on the size of the e-waste issue locally, and has prevented high volumes of electrical equipment from being unnecessarily discarded in landfill sites.

Despite Wiltshire Digital Drive’s name, the organisation’s focus is much wider than just the local area itself: WDD is committed to meeting both the current and future digital needs of the wider community. WDD’s intentionally-disruptive CIC model holds on tightly to technology that would have otherwise been sent to recycling centres or landfill and maximises its use for as long as possible.
Winning an Impact Award would provide both public recognition for the positive social changes achieved to date by the organisation — throughout the pandemic, supporting displaced Ukrainian families and helping children with special educational needs — as well as a valuable public platform that can be used to encourage more people and UK businesses to re-think their approach to e-waste and technology, and to champion the importance of supporting one another during challenging times.
Heading into 2024, WDD is focused on the digital needs of a post-pandemic world and helping families and individuals to weather the cost of living crisis.
