Brief description:

The Met Office Climate Data Portal is a groundbreaking new service which aims to amplify the impact of Met Office climate data, using partner technology to make climate data more accessible and interoperable for a broader user base. This open geospatial platform allows users to view, download and combine and analyse multidisciplinary data, supporting critical decision making and maximising the impact of our climate data.

Built using Esri hub site functionality, the portal contains a range of climate data layers covering our recent and current climate along with future projections looking decades ahead. Whether you’re looking for the frequency of frosts, sea level rise under different emissions scenarios or changes in precipitation patterns for different global warming levels the data on the portal can help answer these questions.

Why entering?

We believe that the Climate Data Portal represents an innovative use of digital technology to deliver cutting edge climate model data to a wide range of customers. The capability scales the reach of our data, combining the best of our climate data and scientific expertise with the digital tools and visualisation capability of Esri to deliver a service of real value to users in the public and private sectors.

The key achievements of the last 12 months include launching the portal as an operational service in June 2023, reaching 15,000 unique visitors to the site and continuing to add new data layers to increase the climate data available on the portal.

The final word is with one of our Beta customers, Forestry and Land Scotland: 'The Innovative approach being taken by the Met Office will make the important climate data available to a broader range of users across our organisation. Importantly the intuitive portal approach being developed will allow users to better understand the local and regional climate differences at a glance.'
